LED is an excellent option
Today’s latest technology in LED lighting can provide warm interior lighting that saves electricity and lasts for years. LED lighting gives you better light quality, a longer lifespan, and is more energy efficient.
Incandescent light is always a warmer more inviting light. It moves away from the cold tones of the ultra-white into a softer more candle like setting. While both can be dimmed, incandescent is designed for in home use. The bulbs, though rated for shorter numbers of hours actually last longer in many cases than fluorescents.
Fluorescent Bulbs
Fluorescent bulbs are fantastic in a warehouse, retail, or office environment. You come in and flip the switch and they remain on all day. They are in this usage, very energy efficient. When people tried to take those and make them cross over to residential use the energy efficiency dropped dramatically.
This is because fluorescent bulbs are rated by the number of starts. This means the number of times the power switch is flicked on and off. In your home your lights are turned on and off numerous times throughout the course of the day. Those cuts short the advertised lifespan of any fluorescent bulb.
Along with that, while you can dim fluorescent bulbs as well, the dimmers for them are more expensive and don’t work as smoothly.
