Why You Should Never Pour Grease Down the Drain

It may seem like the obvious spot to dump bacon or other meat grease when you are cooking but the truth is that grease is a pipe clogging nightmare waiting to happen.

What happens when you pour grease down a sink?

It may seem like nothing at first. You run the hot water and it seems like it dissolves and goes away. But that warm fluid substance doesn’t stay that way for the whole journey. As it cools it becomes solid again. Only now its sitting in your pipes. It can easily become a barrier for things going down the drain, catching them and forming a really solid cohesive clog. It can eventually stop up the drain entirely.

Some may think that the toilet is the better option because of the size of the opening and pipes but you can easily run into the same issue there only now clogging up your sewer line which could cost you big bucks in repairs.

If you don’t live in the woods where you can just walk outside and dump it, just wait for it to cool, solidify, and put into the garage can.

If you have read this article just a little too late, don’t worry. You aren’t alone and you aren’t the first.

We have an idea for you. You can try and break up the clog with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar followed by water as hot as you can make it (boil it on the stove).  This may do the trick.
